We knew that 2020 would be a different year for Habbo, but we didn't imagine it would be such a different year for everyone. While Sulake was preparing for the major renovation of its main product, the COVID-19 pandemic, which started in March, sparked an unprecedented health, economic and humanitarian crisis in many countries and in a few weeks transformed the world as we knew it. In this context, the impacts of the crisis were also reflected in Habbo.
In parallel to the crisis, the Habbo 2020 project, which promised to deliver a new version of the game in the face of the deactivation of Adobe Flash Player, continued in progress and was released in a critical period. Throughout the year, Habbo also repeated many sales and user engagement strategies applied in 2019, but also tried to adjust to the uncertainties of the year. For any event, we now have only numbers left, so Puhekupla and its partners are preparing Habbo Statistics again.
Criteria for data collection
We used the time zone of each hotel to find the first and last records of its respective community. Note that Habbo uses two time zones: the Greenwich Mean Time and the local time zone for each hotel. For this reason you will notice that there is a divergence of dates inside and outside the Hotel. Click here to see an example.
For this analysis were considered all records of the year: this includes banned and fake users, rooms and excluded groups. If it existed at some point, it was accounted for. It is unfeasible to know who and how many users are banned or excluded groups and rooms, for example. Moreover, this is irrelevant to the analysis and does not interfere with the final results. Due to the restrictions imposed by Habbo on hidden profiles, there may be difficulties in identifying the first and last registration of each hotel.
Users
After 7 years, the Habbo community has accelerated its growth again, that is, in 2020, there was a greater number of new registered users than in previous years. There are 5,316,512 users who arrived at the hotel, 36.75% more than in 2019. The results were satisfactory for all communities.

In March, Habbo Italy reached the milestone of 10 million registered users, while Habbo Brazil already approaches 90 million. According to Sulake, more than 316 million avatars have already been registered with Habbo over its 20 years.

Groups
Balance of group sales was also positive. Users of all hotels were willing to buy more groups in 2020, which totaled 114,745 new groups, an increase of 64.3% compared to 2019.
Currently only Habbo Club members can purchase a group, which costs 10 credits. This obstacle prevents the potential for sales to be even greater. On the other hand, group sales were driven by a discount promotion for the first time.

With the exception of Habbo.com.tr and Habbo.es, which maintains a positive sales balance for the second consecutive year, all other communities have reversed the downward trend in recent years. Even in larger communities, like Habbo.com.br and Habbo.es, the strong sales growth is impressive. These two hotels sold in 2020 almost the same amount sold by all hotels in 2019.

Rooms
While the number of guests in the hotel increases, so does the number of rooms. They were responsible for creating 7,001,027 new rooms in 2020, which means 48.8% more than the previous year. These are thousands of new chat rooms, mazes, bundles, among others.

Habbo.de community had a curious explosion of rooms created, more than doubling 2019 records and outperforming Habbo.nl in absolute numbers. Expressive growth was also recorded on Habbo.fi and Habbo.es, although the latter is proportional to the number of new users. The factors that drive growth are uncertain.

Limited Edition Rares
Desired by some, not so much by others, this is a unique category of furniture. At least once every two or three months a limited quantity of a rare high-value one is sold, each unit identified by a number.
Only 4 lots of rare LTD were made available in 2020, totaling 5,454 units distributed in 9 communities. Sales revenue was 1,898,500 credits.

Sales leadership is shared between three communities, although Habbo.com's numbers are better than the others, thus reinforcing its great faithfulness by the LTD rares. Habbo.de and Habbo.com.br were the only ones to decrease sales. In general, for the second consecutive year, the sales rate has evolved and is now at 88.22% — in 2019 this figure was 67.41%!

Habbo Club Payday
Monthly, on the 15th, cashback for Habbo Club members takes place. Habbo returns 10% of the amount spent on the Shop to users and this injects thousands of credits into the pockets of hundreds of users at all hotels. Through Twitter, Habbo make us know some information about this amount paid.

Never, in a single year, users received as many credits as in 2020: there were 16,411,280 in all, an increase of 55.7% over the previous year. This is evidence that users were willing to spend more, especially since the COVID-19 crisis. In August, a single player received 6,019 credits back, the highest payout ever.
Badges
Considered a personal and non-transferable item, the badges are highly desired items in the community, where not only quantity, but also their quality are valued. While quality is a relative concept, at least we are able to bring statistical information.
With the support of HabboLifeForum, we counted 1,543 badges hosted in 2020, which means 30.54% more than in 2019.

In 2020, Habbo grew up in the shadow of tragedy, but it also played a key role in becoming a socialization and leisure option for thousands of young people who were forced to confine themselves at home due to the measures imposed by Governments to contain the health crisis. Those who dedicated themselves to spending more time at Habbo, instead of leaving home, contributed to saving lives, although it is not possible to be proud of the context, after all this cannot be a survival mechanism for a community that was rapidly decreasing.
The 2020 numbers return to levels very similar to those recorded in 2017, but still much lower than the golden Habbo years. As we expect the trend to return to normal for many countries in the coming months, the project for the new version of Habbo continues to be worked on in full swing. We will see what 2021 will say about this new Habbo era.
