HABBOWEEN DESIGN BLOG - CURSED CAVES!

Q: HELLO designers! It's been a while. How are you all? Looking forward to Habboween?

Sparkaro: Hey! I’m fine thanks. Looking forward to spooky Habboween times.

MrCroissant: Hi, I’m very well thanks. Busy making new furni and clothing, as always haha.

Kukuyit: Happy Habboween season!

Elementary_Kage: Greetings! It has, where have you been? I've been in my designer hermit cave contemplating humanity’s existence.

Cromsnosehair: Hanging in there.

Q: LET'S GET STRAIGHT INTO IT. HABBOWEEN: HAVE YOU HAD FUN WITH THE DARK SOULS / DUNGEON-TYPE THEME? WHAT OTHER THEMES DID YOU CONSIDER?

Sparkaro: Yeah, Habboween is always fun to work on because it’s a chance to get creative with the more weird and crazy furni ideas that could fit the theme. We thought about different settings that were based in medieval times, like a jousting tournament or more castle-related items to go with what we already have. But we decided that a dungeon theme would fit the Halloween mood better, and that we were missing this type of furni in Habbo.

MrCroissant: For me Dark Souls and Bloodborne were a massive influence. That and another game called Darkest Dungeon. There is a sense of mystery and dread in both those games and I hope we’ve managed to catch even a little bit of that atmosphere in this new line. Habboween production is nearly always the designer’s favourite time of the year as we can push things design-wise a little more than we usually can, whether that be gross out gore stuff or designing a creepy creature.

Kukuyit: It was fun concepting for this campaign – most of my ideas were heavily inspired by the Skyrim game since I've never played Dark Souls (SHOCKING right!?)

Elementary_Kage: Personally I'm a big Dark Souls game fan so I'm happy we could do some inspired furni around it. Creepy fantasy horror is always fun.

Cromsnosehair: It's always fun to deal with the darker fantasy themes. Moonstone (which is an Amiga game) was a big influence for me during the concepting for this campaign.

Q: WHICH FURNI ARE YOU MOST HAPPY WITH/PROUD OF?

Sparkaro: I had fun working on the weird and cute little Mushroom Man creature. He’s a distant relative of the classic ‘Weird Toy’ furni in Habbo.

MrCroissant: I enjoyed working on the Mimic Treasure Chest - obviously influenced from Dark Souls and Japanese folklore. Especially animating the slobber… the Flaming Knight was also fun to work on – he just looks cool.

Kukuyit: I had to take on the more complicated and time-consuming items like the two sets of rare armour we’ve done, so most of my time was spent on those. Other than that, I like how my hanging bats turned out, I like nature and animal-type furnis!

Cromsnosehair: I'm pretty happy with the Hellfire Dragon LTD. It's quite a big furni and I had fun animating it.

Q: WHICH TV SERIES/ANIME SERIES/FILMS/GAMES HAVE YOU BEEN WATCHING, PLAYING AND ENJOYING MOST RECENTLY?

Sparkaro: I recently finished playing the Zero Escape trilogy on DS/3DS, which is an awesome and mind bending game series with a great story. I recommend it to anyone that enjoys puzzle or visual novel type games!

MrCroissant: I recently got a PS4 so I picked up Bloodborne. I’m currently tackling the DLC before I move onto the last couple of bosses. And then in stark contrast I picked up Crash Bandicoot The N.Sane Trilogy, mainly for nostalgia reasons. They were the first console games I owned and were a massive influence on me as an artist and a gamer. They’ve actually done very well in capturing how those three old games played and felt (for the most part anyway). It’s visually impressive too; Crash’s world looks fantastic again after the HD treatment. Current TV series I’m watching are Game Of Thrones (of course) and the new Twin Peaks, which might even be weirder than the original series, haha.

I also saw Dunkirk recently which I thought was amazing. I couldn’t stop gushing about it to my friends and family. It might be my favourite film in the last decade or more. Absolutely incredible.

Kukuyit: Recently I've been watching the latest Game of Thrones, My Hero Academia and I’ve been playing Persona 5.

Elementary_Kage: As a massive anime and manga nerd, I've been watching a lot of new series each season. Currently My Hero Academia is my favourite recent watch and Shaman King is my favourite manga read. I've also been playing Dream Daddy and Yakuza 0, both of which are hilarious and heart-wrenching but in completely different ways.

Cromsnosehair: I've been playing UFC2 on the PS4 most weekends – the best realistic fighting game I've played. Check out Don't Knock Twice and Get Out if you want horror movie recommendations.

TAKE ONE OF THE SCARY FURNI FROM THE CURSED CAVES LINE AND MAKE IT AS CUTE AS YOU CAN.

Sparkaro: I ‘cutified’ the Mushroom Man!

MrCroissant: I’m going to have to choose the Mimic Chest aren’t I?! He wants to give everyone a big slobbery kiss!

Kukuyit: Here's what I imagine a toddler Flaming Knight to be like.

Elementary_Kage: Meet your friendly neighbourhood worm, bringing entertainment to the underground.

Cromsnosehair: It's the rat and it's coming to get you...
